Staff Reliability Engineer (Robotics)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid. Flexible consideration may be available for candidates in other locations, especially where an office is present, such as SF or NY.

What you will do

• Own hardware reliability strategy, requirements, budgets, availability targets, mission profiles, and duty cycles for autonomous vehicle upfit hardware.
• Lead DFMEA and FTA activities across mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical subsystems, including failure-mode analysis, fault-tree modeling, and corrective actions.
• Develop reliability block diagrams, predictions, Weibull and life-data analyses, reliability growth tracking, and derating assessments.
• Define and execute HALT/HASS, accelerated life, vibration, shock, thermal, ingress, corrosion, and durability testing.
• Lead field-failure investigations and FRACAS activities using 8D, 5-Whys, fishbone analysis, and fault isolation.
• Partner with design, software, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and field teams to improve reliability through NPI and deployment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of hardware reliability engineering experience in vehicles, heavy machinery, robotics, automotive, aerospace, or industrial equipment.
• Hands-on expertise with DFMEA, FTA, reliability prediction and modeling, accelerated and life testing, structured root-cause analysis, and FRACAS.
• Strong knowledge of reliability and statistical tools such as ReliaSoft Weibull++/BlockSim, Windchill Quality/Relex, Minitab, Python, or R.
• Ability to work cross-functionally on reliability requirements, validation, field failures, supplier qualification, and design decisions.

• Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems.
