TL;DR

Focus on prototyping cooling and control schemes, validating emerging trap technologies, and debugging complex hardware/software interactions.

What you will do

  • Prototype and characterise coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits using laser and microwave fields.
  • Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to improve the fidelity of quantum circuit primitives and full circuits.
  • Validate emerging trap technologies, including integrated electronics and photonics for large-scale architectures.
  • Design, code, debug, and execute experiments while analysing experimental data.
  • Develop and validate novel control schemes, document findings, and improve the reliability of qubit operations.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics or a related discipline, with a strong foundation in atomic or qubit-related physics.
  • Expertise in experimental AMO physics or quantum computing; trapped-ion experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience with spectroscopy, coherent control of multi-level systems, control hardware characterisation, gate-fidelity benchmarking, or running quantum circuits on hardware.
  • Solid background in quantum control, calibration, benchmarking, or coherent control of qubits.
  • Strong programming and data-analysis skills; Python or Rust experience is desirable.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work independently in a fast-moving technical team.

  • Prior postdoctoral or industry experience.
  • Experience with trapped ions.
  • Scientific communication through publications, talks, and conferences.
