Software Engineer - Disruptor Capabilities (AU) (Python)

What you will do

• Build and optimise Python systems software for RFAI-ATK Disruptor Capability, from service interfaces and APIs to FPGA and RF subsystem control.
• Implement software features from requirements gathering through delivery, production diagnostics, and issue resolution.
• Design and maintain robust APIs and inter-process communication for internal and external system integration.
• Advance reliable, high-performance software architecture for resource-constrained targets and document designs and processes.
• Collaborate with ML/AI, data science, RF, hardware, firmware, test, infrastructure, and operations teams.
• Own subsystems or product areas, provide technical guidance, and mentor team members.

Requirements

• 4–5 years of experience in software engineering, embedded software, firmware, or Python development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electronic Engineering, or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong Python software engineering skills, including type-safe data modelling, asynchronous programming, serialisation, packaging, and dependency management.
• Experience with API design, software architecture, design patterns, and communication protocols such as gRPC, REST, TCP, or UDP.
• Comfort working in a Linux-first command-line environment with Git, Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to work onsite in Sydney, Australia.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of RF communications and signal processing.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop CI/CD design.
• Software development experience in Rust, Go, C, or modern C++.
• Laboratory or field-based testing experience.
