Senior Applied AI Engineer

Location: Melbourne, Australia; work from the local hirify.global office an average of 2 days a week

What you will do

• Design, implement, and evaluate agentic AI capabilities using stateful, multi-turn frameworks such as LangGraph.
• Build and orchestrate workplace-data pipelines and integrations covering surveys, goals, performance reviews, feedback, and one-to-one notes.
• Develop persistent user memory, context graphs, custom ontologies, and graph-based agentic architectures.
• Build and evaluate RAG systems using preprocessing, hybrid search, knowledge graphs, and graph databases.
• Own prompt engineering, large-scale evaluation, observability, feedback loops, guardrails, and production safety.
• Translate customer needs into technical designs and collaborate with product, design, people science, and product engineering teams.

Requirements

• Commercial experience taking machine learning or AI systems into production.
• Hands-on experience with knowledge graphs, graph databases, multi-agent systems, orchestration, prompt engineering, context engineering, RAG, and memory.
• Production LLM evaluation and observability experience, including LLM-as-judge, evaluation datasets, human-in-the-loop labelling, tracing, and monitoring.
• Full-stack software development experience, ideally with Python, React, and PGVector.
• Experience designing and integrating secure, robust data pipelines and writing clean, tested, maintainable code.
• Experience building reliable autonomous-agent workflows, feedback loops, evaluation frameworks, bias testing, and production guardrails.

Nice to have

• Startup or founding-team experience.
• Postgraduate degree in machine learning, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience taking recent AI techniques from research papers into production.
• Experience with people analytics, HR technology, behavioural science, GraphRAG, open-source contributions, or public technical writing.
