Software Integration Engineer - C2 Systems

Location: Clarksburg, Maryland, United States; ability to commute as needed. Travel is 10–50% depending on candidate preference and role placement.

Salary: $120,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity for most full-time, high-demand roles.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end command-and-control workflows from vehicle command definitions through middleware, networks, and operator control units.
• Define and extend message contracts for vehicle state, tasks, commands, telemetry, autonomy, routing, convoy, zones, and teleoperation.
• Build and maintain the integration layer between the autonomy stack and middleware, translating operator commands into vehicle behavior.
• Support the transition from the legacy operator control unit to the next-generation interface while maintaining existing program workflows.
• Deploy and validate C2 software on customer-bound hardware, debug field issues across systems and constrained networks, and drive problems to root cause.
• Translate program and end-user requirements into delivered C2 capabilities while using agentic AI tooling to navigate codebases, prototype, and ship.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, robotics, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Experience with publish/subscribe or message-oriented middleware, message schemas or interface-definition formats, and code generation.
• Core software engineering skills including software design, unit testing, and debugging.
• Proficiency with the Linux command line and Linux development and deployment environments.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar codebases quickly, work across the full stack, and communicate system behavior clearly.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance may be required.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in C++ and experience building full-stack web applications with React, Vue, Svelte, TypeScript, Node, or related technologies.
• Networking experience with UDP/TCP, routing, multicast, broadcast, and debugging over constrained or unreliable links.
• Experience integrating software on hardware products or working with robotics, autonomous systems, and real-time systems.
• Background in defense, automotive, robotics, or safety-critical software.
