Satellite Payload Processing Engineer (Earth Observation)

Location: Hybrid in Harwell, UK; Athens, Greece; Barcelona, Spain; Buenos Aires, Argentina; or Porto, Portugal. Legal right to work in the chosen location is required.

What you will do

• Define Earth Observation product specifications with customers, sales teams, and mission engineers.
• Translate customer data requirements into technical processing specifications for missions and data products.
• Design and develop image processing pipelines from raw data ingestion to calibrated, orthorectified, and analysis-ready products.
• Implement and maintain algorithms for registration, georeferencing, orthorectification, radiometric and atmospheric correction, cloud masking, classification, and derived products.
• Integrate automated workflows into scalable processing and orchestration platforms for multi-payload and multi-sensor operations.
• Support payload characterisation, calibration, validation, feasibility assessments, proposals, and continuous processing-chain improvements.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of remote sensing principles and optical Earth Observation image processing.
• Understanding of satellite payload processing concepts and algorithmic approaches.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with GDAL, rasterio, numpy, or Xarray.
• Knowledge of geospatial data structures, formats, coordinate systems, and projections.
• Understanding of data processing pipelines, automation, workflow orchestration, and calibration and validation principles.
• Legal right to work in the chosen employment location is required. CV submission must be in English.
