Engineering Manager (Compute)

Location: Paris, France; hybrid workplace with up to two remote days per week

What you will do

• Lead, coach, develop, recruit, onboard, and retain the Compute Engineering team.
• Define priorities and deliver the Compute platform roadmap with Product, Staff Engineers, and Engineering Leadership.
• Build platform capabilities supporting scientific computing, AI workloads, and internal developer platforms.
• Improve architecture, testing, observability, reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability of production systems.
• Promote automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and AI-assisted software development.
• Partner with Platform, Data, AI, and Scientific teams on architecture, planning, technical decisions, and organizational strategy.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including production systems built at scale.
• Experience leading engineering teams as an Engineering Manager or Tech Lead with people-management responsibilities.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, cloud-native applications, or compute-intensive platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Python and modern backend development.
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and modern cloud infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, scalability, observability, operational excellence, roadmap execution, and cross-functional communication.

Nice to have

• Experience leading Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, Compute, or SRE teams.
• Exposure to scientific computing, machine learning infrastructure, AI platforms, GPU infrastructure, or distributed training systems.
• Experience with workflow orchestration systems, developer platforms, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Experience scaling engineering organizations in fast-growing technology companies.
• Interest in computational chemistry, life sciences, or scientific research.
