Senior Thin Film Engineer

Location: Irvine, California, United States. The role operates in a professional office and laboratory environment and requires eligibility to work in the United States. Work visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.

What you will do

• Develop, design, and optimize optical thin film deposition processes for ion beam sputtering, ion assist, and electron beam coating.
• Collaborate with design engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and resolve coating chamber and process issues.
• Characterize equipment and coating processes while working to reduce downtime.
• Manage coating defects, implement root-cause solutions, and support continuous improvement in quality and cost.
• Create process documentation and formal work instructions.
• Train technicians and machine maintenance personnel on coating processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Physics, or Engineering.
• 3–5 years of in-depth experience in a thin film manufacturing environment.
• Experience correlating thin film performance with deposition chamber hardware and processes.
• Experience troubleshooting and solving thin film process problems.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
