TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Subsea): Designing and delivering pressure-tolerant mechanical systems for modular subsea geothermal power plants with an accent on structural systems, thermal interfaces, sealing, corrosion mitigation, and fluid systems. Focus on first-principles analysis, building and qualifying hardware, debugging mechanical failures, and validating performance through sea trials and offshore deployment.

Location: Seattle, WA; on-site

Salary: $170,000–$230,000 per year, plus equity

Company

hirify.global is a pre-revenue startup developing modular subsea geothermal power plants that convert ocean-floor thermal resources into baseload power.

What you will do

  • Architect and design mechanical systems from concept through offshore deployment.
  • Develop pressure-tolerant structures, pressure housings, structural frames, thermal interfaces, fluid systems, and deployment mechanisms for subsea environments.
  • Perform first-principles analysis of loads, thermal behavior, sealing strategies, corrosion, and failure modes.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, tolerance stacks, and complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Build prototypes, execute pressure, fatigue, thermal-cycle, and corrosion qualification tests, and investigate hardware failures.
  • Collaborate with fabricators, suppliers, electrical, drilling, and subsea systems teams, and participate in sea trials and field deployments.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience designing and delivering complex mechanical systems in demanding environments.
  • Demonstrated ownership of hardware from early concept through testing and deployment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanics, materials, thermal systems, structural load paths, sealing, corrosion mitigation, and failure modes.
  • Deep proficiency in 3D CAD and mechanical design of complex assemblies.
  • Experience with harsh-environment hardware such as subsea, aerospace, automotive, energy, or robotics systems.
  • Hands-on laboratory or shop experience, including debugging failures through testing and root-cause analysis.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with competitive base salary and meaningful equity ownership.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible PTO and 12 paid company holidays.
  • Opportunities to travel to deployment sites in locations including the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores.
  • Participation in sea trials and deployment operations with oceanographic institutions, plus company-sponsored recreational dive certification.
  • Access to a company boat, free meals and snacks, and hands-on work across marine systems, high-power electronics, and clean energy.

Hiring process

  • Selected candidates will discuss the role and compensation details with a recruiter.
