Backend Developer (Satellite Technology)

Location: Hybrid in Montreal or Ottawa, Canada

hirify.global provides satellite and aircraft-based greenhouse gas detection, measurement, and monitoring services for industrial and government customers.

What you will do

• Develop tools and applications for satellite planning and tasking workflows.
• Build, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain backend services, databases, data transformation frameworks, and APIs.
• Optimize data structures, database schemas, and queries for frequent usage.
• Contribute to system architecture design and regularly revisit architectural decisions with the team.
• Maintain high availability of the hirify.global data platform.
• Participate in Agile Scrum delivery, data analysis, testing, on-call rotation, and occasional support outside regular business hours.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in relevant software development or computational science roles.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience with Python and Linux.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, scalable backend services, REST or GraphQL APIs, event-driven architecture, microservices, and cloud deployment.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and meet the requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
• Ability to work autonomously and participate in scheduled on-call support.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Frontend experience with TypeScript and React.
• Knowledge of GIS and mapping applications, including Mapbox, Leaflet, GeoJSON, or GeoTIFF.
• Understanding of satellite operations, remote sensing, atmospheric sciences, or space technology.
• Bilingual French and English.
