Forward Deployed AI Engineer (Generative Biology)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid working. The role may require on-site work at international pharmaceutical and biotech partner locations.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end technical deployments of generative biology models into customer scientific and IT environments.
• Design and build production-grade API integrations, data pipelines, and model-serving infrastructure.
• Work directly with pharmaceutical and biotech partners to scope requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver solutions.
• Ensure deployments meet enterprise standards for security, performance, reliability, compliance, and auditability.
• Act as the technical point of contact for customers and translate feedback into product and research improvements.
• Create integration guides, technical documentation, and best-practice resources.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related quantitative field.
• Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining infrastructure for large-scale model serving and ML APIs.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, containerisation using Docker and Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience deploying AI systems for external customers and communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong collaboration, technical communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in San Francisco and spend time on-site with international partners as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience with computational biology, protein design, or other ML-driven life science projects.
• Novel contributions to generative modelling through publications, open-source work, or product features.
• Experience delivering enterprise software for security, compliance, auditability, and uptime requirements.
• Pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience, including knowledge of regulatory and data governance requirements.
• Experience with GCP or Azure.
