Senior Software Engineer (Go/Kubernetes)

Location: London, UK; hybrid work with attendance at the London office 3 days a week

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate backend services, APIs, microservices, and platform components in Go.
• Own services end to end, from system design and implementation through containerisation, deployment, observability, debugging, and production operations.
• Build scalable, resilient, observable, event-driven systems and improve monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and production debugging.
• Develop Docker images, Kubernetes workloads, CI/CD pipelines, and Argo/GitOps delivery workflows, including secrets management and deployment automation.
• Contribute to platform architecture and capabilities including workload isolation, policy enforcement, auditability, identity-aware communication, and secure execution.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into reliable technical systems, make pragmatic trade-offs, and raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and operational improvements.

Requirements

• Senior backend engineering experience, ideally with hands-on Go experience.
• Experience owning production services and building APIs, backend services, microservices, or distributed systems.
• Strong experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
• Familiarity with GitOps, Argo, container registries, secrets, and secure deployment workflows.
• Strong system design fundamentals focused on reliability, scalability, observability, and failure handling.
• Ability to reason about security boundaries, operational risk, production failure modes, and issues across applications, services, and infrastructure.
• Ability to shape technical approaches from ambiguous requirements, with product-minded engineering judgement and a self-driven ownership-oriented approach.
• Comfort giving and receiving feedback, reviewing designs, improving team standards, and working across backend, platform, infrastructure, and DevOps areas.

Nice to have

• Experience with secure or regulated environments such as defence, government, fintech, healthcare, critical infrastructure, or sovereign cloud.
• Knowledge of zero-trust architecture, identity-aware systems, policy enforcement, workload isolation, service mesh, network policy, ingress/egress control, or secure service-to-service communication.
• Experience with observability tooling, incident response, supply-chain security, image signing, vulnerability scanning, SBOMs, artifact verification, or admission control.
• Experience with Vault, SOPS, Sealed Secrets, External Secrets, or cloud-native secret managers.
• Experience in startup, platform, infrastructure, or product engineering environments with broad ownership.
