Software Product Design Engineer (React)

Location: In-person at YC's campus in Dogpatch, San Francisco; must live in the San Francisco Bay Area or be willing to relocate to San Francisco.

Salary: $250,000–$500,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus a profit-sharing program.

What you will do

• Design clear, compelling UI/UX and create high-quality product mocks.
• Translate design mocks into pixel-perfect, production-ready frontends using React, TypeScript, and modern CSS.
• Improve existing interfaces through better layouts, interactions, motion, and visual consistency.
• Own feature design and implementation end-to-end while collaborating with engineers, partners, stakeholders, and users.
• Rapidly prototype ideas, gather feedback, and iterate quickly.
• Contribute to design systems, component libraries, and reusable frontend patterns.

Requirements

• Strong UX and visual design skills with proven taste and craftsmanship.
• Frontend engineering experience building real user interfaces with React, TypeScript, and modern CSS.
• Ability to move between design tools such as Figma and frontend code.
• Ability to ship quickly, iterate based on feedback, and take ownership.
• Strong attention to typography, spacing, micro-interactions, and transitions.
• Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate; the role is in-person five days a week.

Nice to have

• Experience building or maintaining design systems.
• Contributions to open source UI libraries or design resources.
• Experience with internal tools, admin dashboards, or developer-facing products.
