Design Engineer (React/React Native)

Location: On-site at the SoHo office in New York City, United States; in-person work five days a week.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year plus equity.

What you will do

• Build and refine experiences across the React Native event discovery app and React web tools for event creators.
• Translate interactive Figma prototypes into production-ready code in collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Improve design system usability, responsiveness, motion, components, primitives, and tokens across web and mobile.
• Create coded prototypes and micro-interactions to resolve product decisions and improve core user flows.
• Mentor frontend engineers, run craft critiques, and establish frontend patterns and quality standards.
• Contribute design-and-engineering perspectives to roadmap discussions and solution framing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production frontend applications for consumer products, including 2+ years in a Design Engineer-style role.
• Deep experience with React, TypeScript, and modern CSS; React Native experience is ideal.
• Hands-on Figma experience with shared component libraries and design systems.
• A portfolio demonstrating shipped work with strong interaction, animation, typography, and responsive design quality.
• Strong product judgment, ownership, prototyping ability, and comfort with ambiguous problems.
• Comfortable working in person in New York City five days a week.

Nice to have

• Background in consumer, social, or marketplace products.
• Experience owning a cross-platform design system spanning web and React Native.
• Experience working closely with Senior Product Designers.
• Experience as a tech lead on a small product-focused pod.
• Side projects, open-source contributions, or public writing demonstrating craft and technical thinking.
