TL;DR
Product Designer (Scientific Instrumentation): Design the end-to-end user experience for quantum sensing and metrology systems software and hardware workflows with an accent on complex scientific instrumentation and hardware-software integration. Focus on designing intuitive workflows, conducting user research, prototyping, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to improve reliability and efficiency of technical workflows.

hirify.global is a deep tech startup founded as a spin-off of TU Munich, specializing in quantum sensors for semiconductor chip testing and debugging.

What you will do

  • Own the end-to-end user experience across experiment planning, sample mounting, instrument setup, calibration, measurement, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Map user journeys across physical and digital touch points, identifying friction and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct user research, interviews, workflow observations, and usability testing with internal and external users.
  • Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma.
  • Collaborate with engineers, physicists, machine learning specialists, and product stakeholders to translate user needs into effective experiences.
  • Develop and maintain a scalable design system and contribute to product discovery and prioritization.

Requirements

  • Onsite presence in Munich is required.
  • Professional experience designing complex B2B, scientific, or industrial products with strong portfolio.
  • Ability to design workflows spanning software, hardware, and physical processes.
  • Strong interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and user research skills.
  • Confidence owning design work from discovery through delivery and collaborating with technical stakeholders.
  • Background in interaction design, product design, HCI, industrial design, computer science, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing products combining software, hardware, and physical interactions, especially scientific instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows, sample handling, equipment configuration, and experimental processes.
  • Experience with data visualization, analytics, simulation software, or safety-critical workflows.
  • Experience creating or maintaining design systems and knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Basic knowledge of Python, Qt, Git, or version-controlled workflows (programming not required).
