TL;DR
Data Scientist II (Product Analytics and Causal Inference): Driving product analytics, experimentation, and decision-making for the edX.org online learning marketplace with an accent on funnel analysis, KPI development, and rigorous statistical methods. Focus on designing A/B tests, applying quasi-experimental techniques, modeling complex behavioral datasets, and building reliable self-serve data tools.

Location: Remote across the U.S.; candidates in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area are prioritized, with availability to work from the Arlington headquarters two days per week.

Base salary: $107,300–$124,200 per year, with potential bonus eligibility.

What you will do

  • Partner with Product, Marketing, and Finance on funnel, cohort, retention, segmentation, and ad hoc analyses for edX.org.
  • Own A/B tests end-to-end, including experimental design, power analysis, and interpretation.
  • Apply quasi-experimental methods such as difference-in-differences, propensity scoring, regression discontinuity, and synthetic control.
  • Define and maintain north-star, input, and guardrail KPIs, and build scalable dashboards and self-serve tooling.
  • Partner with Data Engineering on dbt models, exploratory analysis, data validation, and quality checks.
  • Use classification, regression, and clustering to generate actionable insights and educate business stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, or a related quantitative field; a graduate degree is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in data science, product analytics, or a related quantitative role.
  • Strong foundation in hypothesis testing, power analysis, confidence intervals, multiple comparisons, exploratory analysis, and data validation.
  • Experience running A/B tests and applying causal inference methods.
  • Strong Python with pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn, plus advanced SQL on large, complex datasets.
  • Hands-on experience with product analytics platforms such as Amplitude, FullStory, or Mixpanel, and experience with online learning, consumer subscription, or marketplace products.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Statsig, Eppo, Optimizely, or LaunchDarkly.
  • Exposure to Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Spark.
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative field.
