Foundational Fullstack Engineer (Node)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco/Bay Area or New York City

Salary: $175,000–$300,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, secure backend services and APIs from scratch.
• Make architectural decisions focused on speed, data integrity, and long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate with product, design, and data teams to develop performant systems for key customer workflows.
• Own infrastructure, observability, and performance for the services you build.
• Shape engineering best practices, code quality, and backend culture.
• Help drive engineering strategy and product execution alongside leadership.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building backend systems in high-growth environments.
• Fluency with Node, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud services, preferably AWS.
• Experience designing robust APIs and distributed systems at scale.
• Strong product sensibility and the ability to balance performance, flexibility, and speed.
• Comfort working with ambiguity, rapid growth, and high ownership.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, tax, accounting, or regulatory technology.
• Infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including CI/CD and observability.
• Experience scaling monolith-to-service or event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with GraphQL, Kafka, Terraform, or container orchestration tools.
