Software Engineer (Fraud Detection)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required by agreement with the manager.

Salary: $162,000–$186,000 USD annually, with possible bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Build and maintain large-scale backend systems for detecting fraudulent listings and bad actors.
• Connect fraud detection rules with productionized machine learning models.
• Collaborate with machine learning engineers, product managers, operations, data scientists, designers, and research partners.
• Build tooling and automation that improves fraud investigation and operational efficiency.
• Develop user challenges, including location verification, to prevent fraudulent listings while minimizing impact on legitimate users.
• Build machine learning data pipelines and reduce fraud and financial losses at scale.

Requirements

• 3+ years of industry experience building systems at scale, including relevant MS or PhD experience.
• Experience building user-facing products or large backend systems.
• Experience with Ruby/Ruby on Rails, Java, JavaScript, Python, or Scala.
• Ability to write high-performance, production-quality code.
• Understanding of architectural patterns for high-scale web applications, well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate with non-technical stakeholders, including legal and operations.
