TL;DR
CFD/Thermal Hydraulics Engineer III (Nuclear): Designing and analyzing thermal-hydraulic systems, structures, and components for advanced nuclear reactors with an accent on heat transfer, fluid mechanics, particulate mechanics, and nuclear safety. Focus on developing, testing, and verifying CFD models for steady-state, transient, design-basis-event, and anomaly analyses that support the reactor licensing basis.

Location: Rockville, Maryland, United States; 4-5 days in office

Salary: $115,000-$140,000 per year

What you will do

  • Develop mechanical and physical concepts for structures, systems, and components used in nuclear products and facilities, with a focus on nuclear safety.
  • Perform structural, thermal, hydraulic, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and particulate mechanics analyses.
  • Develop, test, and verify CFD models for steady-state, transient, design-basis-event, and anomaly conditions supporting the reactor licensing basis.
  • Define requirements, interfaces, design bases, criteria, and applicable industry codes and standards with systems engineers and project leads.
  • Assess manufacturability, assembly, integration, prototyping, testing, and commissioning needs.
  • Prepare design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, drawings, and verification and validation plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, such as nuclear, aerospace, or chemical engineering.
  • Typically five years of engineering experience; a master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for part of the experience requirement.
  • Proficiency with engineering hand calculations.
  • Experience or knowledge with CFD analysis codes such as STAR-CCM+, Fluent, or similar tools.
  • Experience or knowledge with engineering and product lifecycle tools such as UG/NX, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer, Teamcenter, Windchill, or similar.
  • Ability to work on site in Rockville 4-5 days per week and follow a standard 8:00am-5:00pm ET schedule.
