Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite at the NYC office near Grand Central Station

Salary: $215,000–$250,000 base salary per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Own the product and technical vision for the AI agent that programs industrial robots through natural-language conversation.
• Build vertical applications for palletizing, welding, and machine tending, including purpose-built workflows and user experiences.
• Design stable agent tool interfaces against robot platform APIs and create safe ways to read, write, and edit structured automation programs.
• Define quality standards for a nondeterministic product, including latency and token budgets, evaluation gates, and release criteria.
• Lead production hardening across the TypeScript/Node stack, including reliability, secure key management, usage controls, offline modes, and QA-gated releases.
• Partner with customers, operators, product, QA, AI, and robotics teams while mentoring engineers and driving the agent from demo to production.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on AI product development.
• Experience shipping an LLM-powered product, building model evaluation systems, or delivering production data work for AI/ML.
• Fluency in agent loops, tool calling, prompt and context management, structured output, model selection, fallbacks, and token and latency economics.
• Experience building evaluation datasets, harnesses, or regression gates for nondeterministic systems and using them for launch decisions.
• Strong product ownership, user research, UX judgment, and experience working with operational or domain-heavy users.
• Ability to work onsite in the NYC office 3 days per week; fluency in TypeScript/Node.js is preferred, with range across React, Python, C++, and Kubernetes.

Nice to have

• Experience serving manufacturing, logistics, or field-operations users.
• Robotics experience is welcome but not required.
• Experience with agentic coding tools as part of the standard development workflow.
