TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer, New Grad (Aerospace) (Welding and Advanced Hardware): Supporting the development, fabrication, and integration of welded aircraft structures, tanks, propulsion assemblies, and other advanced aerospace hardware with an accent on weld process development, qualification, inspection, and manufacturability. Focus on evaluating weld quality, investigating process and material issues, improving tooling and joint design, and supporting hands-on prototype builds for hypersonic aircraft manufacturing.

What you will do

  • Support the development and improvement of welding processes, parameters, fixtures, and joint designs for aerospace hardware.
  • Assist with R&D and prototype builds of welded aircraft structures, tanks, propulsion assemblies, and related hardware.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, test, tooling, automation, and integration teams on fabrication and assembly.
  • Evaluate weld quality using inspection results, non-destructive evaluation, test data, and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Support weld qualification through mechanical testing, inspection, documentation, and data review.
  • Investigate root causes related to weld quality, material compatibility, process variation, distortion, and hardware performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; graduating students are eligible.
  • Hands-on experience from internships, research, capstone projects, student competition teams, laboratories, or manufacturing environments.
  • Exposure to fabrication, manufacturing, testing, or integration of mechanical or aerospace hardware.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Willingness to work directly on the shop floor with technicians and engineers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export control requirements.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on welding, fabrication, joining, or experience with processes such as TIG, MIG, laser beam, electron beam, plasma arc, resistance, friction-stir, or orbital tube welding.
  • Experience with aerospace structures, propulsion hardware, tanks, pressure vessels, or structural assemblies.
  • Knowledge of nickel-based alloys, stainless steel, titanium, copper, aluminum, weld joint design, tolerances, thermal effects, or structural loading.
  • Experience with non-destructive evaluation, mechanical testing, metallography, brazing, automation, robotic welding, or tooling.
  • Participation in hands-on engineering organizations such as FSAE, rocketry, robotics, or aerospace clubs.
