LLVM / MLIR Compiler Architect - Photonic Computing (LLVM/MLIR, photonic AI and HPC): Design and build a compiler stack that connects developer frameworks with photonic hardware, with an accent on MLIR dialects, hardware interfaces, ISA co-design, and high-performance execution. Focus on shaping compiler-generated code, optimizing parallel on-device workloads, profiling performance bottlenecks, and coordinating hardware/software architecture across teams.

What you will do
- Design, lead, and deliver the LLVM/MLIR-based compiler stack for photonic computing.
- Define the MLIR dialect and connect it to hardware interfaces, system architecture, and the instruction set architecture.
- Shape hardware design points that enable high parallelism, low latency, and efficient on-device algorithm execution.
- Provide technical guidance to algorithm and application teams developing and optimizing high-performance compute kernels.
- Profile compiler-generated code, analyze performance bottlenecks, and identify optimization opportunities.
- Coordinate compiler development with system engineering, architecture, ASIC design, external partners, and the LLVM/MLIR community.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building compilers with LLVM/MLIR and co-designing hardware architectures.
- Experience with profiling and performance analysis of compiler-generated code.
- Deep expertise in systems architecture, programming languages, and AI or scientific computing algorithms.
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; equivalent industry experience is considered.
- Fluent English required.
Nice to have
- German language skills.
- Experience with heterogeneous or novel compute architectures such as GPUs, TPUs, FPGAs, or custom accelerators.
- Experience defining MLIR dialects and contributing to LLVM/MLIR open-source projects.
- Experience with PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, OpenMP, or MPI.
- Background in photonics.
