TL;DR
Quantum Design Engineer (Superconducting Quantum Hardware): Designing and simulating next-generation superconducting qubit chips, scalable QPU architectures, and nonreciprocal circuits with an accent on electromagnetic simulation, frequency allocation, crosstalk management, packaging, and cryogenic readout performance. Focus on automating parametric design and simulation workflows with Python, correlating simulations with experimental data, and improving coherence, fidelity, yield, and manufacturability.

Location: On-site in Delft, Netherlands

What you will do

  • Design and simulate next-generation qubit chips and modular, scalable QPU architectures.
  • Develop manufacturable device architectures that improve performance, coherence, qubit fidelity, yield, and R&D cycle time.
  • Design and optimize nonreciprocal superconducting circuits, including parametric amplifiers and isolators, for cryogenic readout chains.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations and analyze frequency allocation, crosstalk, packaging, and interconnect strategies.
  • Correlate simulation results with experimental data and collaborate with experimentalists and device engineers on rapid design-to-test iterations.
  • Automate parametric device generation, simulation sweeps, and data post-processing using Python.

Requirements

  • MSc in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of industry experience, or a PhD with relevant hands-on experience.
  • Strong Python skills for design automation, simulation control, and data analysis.
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation and chip design tools such as Ansys HFSS-Q3D and KLayout.
  • Solid understanding of microwave engineering, quantum noise sources, and fabrication methods.
  • Knowledge of cQED devices and superconducting circuit design.
  • Ability to work on-site in Delft, Netherlands.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Git and Qiskit-Metal.
  • Experience designing nonreciprocal superconducting circuits, such as parametric amplifiers, or advanced readout techniques.
