TL;DR
Research Scientist (Neurotechnology): Supporting the development and evaluation of neuro-specific medical devices through preclinical research, biological safety assessments, and scientific documentation with an accent on neuroscience, in vivo testing, and regulated product development. Focus on coordinating laboratory studies, preparing biological safety risk assessments, contributing to regulatory submissions, and presenting technical findings to cross-functional and external stakeholders.

Location: Jacksonville, Florida, US; hybrid work mode, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with some flexibility.

What you will do

  • Lead or support research and technical investigations for new and sustaining neuro medical devices with stereotactic integration.
  • Coordinate preclinical and laboratory studies, biological safety assessments, and testing programs, including biocompatibility testing under ISO 10993.
  • Develop, review, and approve study protocols, reports, and biological safety risk assessments.
  • Provide scientific and biological safety expertise for regulatory submissions and cross-functional product development.
  • Present research findings and technical reviews to internal stakeholders, key opinion leaders, laboratories, and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain scientific relationships with external collaborators and support additional neuro-related research activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in neuroscience, biomedical science, biology, toxicology, materials science, or a related discipline; a bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience may be considered.
  • Typically, 5 years of relevant industry experience with a master’s degree, 3 years with a PhD or DVM, or 10 years with a bachelor’s degree.
  • 3–5 years of research experience in neuroscience, tissue histology, or related preclinical research.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on preclinical in vivo research, including large animal model testing.
  • 5+ years of medical device R&D experience involving biological safety risk assessment or equivalent experience based on degree level.
  • Strong experience with regulated product development, biological safety assessments, and project management.

Nice to have

  • PhD or DVM.
  • Experience in neurotechnology, neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, or neuro-endoscopy.
  • Experience supporting regulated product development and cross-functional research programs.
