Mechanical Engineer, Technical Lead (Hypersonic Aerospace)

Location: Based in Mojave, California, United States; consideration for a hybrid schedule for a well-qualified candidate. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.

Base salary: $120,500–$158,000 for the Senior level or $157,000–$206,000 for the Staff level.

What you will do

• Lead a multidisciplinary integrated product team of mechanical, structural, analysis, dynamics, and manufacturing engineers.
• Drive structural development, payload integration, trade studies, and structural layout for hypersonic vehicle improvements.
• Make technical decisions for the structures subsystem and lead structural systems engineering activities.
• Lead structural design reviews through manufacturing and flight testing.
• Manage structural requirements, mass properties, configuration control, technical documentation, and ground-test decisions.
• Coordinate with program engineers, the Payload Lead, the Talon-A Chief Engineer, customers, and subcontractors.

Requirements

• Senior or Staff-level experience: 5–10 years for Senior or 10–20 years for Staff, with a bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience in structures, loads, structural-thermal analysis, mechanical systems, aircraft systems, aircraft operations, or launch vehicle integration.
• Experience developing prototype or experimental flight vehicles and working as a structural or mechanical design engineer.
• Experience with composite structures analysis, design, and manufacturing, technical aerospace leadership, subcontractors, and risk management.
• Technical leadership experience, strong communication, independent prioritization, and adaptability in small engineering teams.
• Experience with MS Office, configuration management systems such as JIRA, GIT, or JAMA, and 3D CAD using CATIA or SolidWorks; ability to acquire and maintain a security clearance.

Nice to have

• Hypersonic or supersonic vehicle development experience across the full program life cycle.
• Air-launched vehicle development, BMI or epoxy prepreg composites, and static structural testing experience.
• Active security clearance.
• FEMAP, NX NASTRAN, Teamcenter, Python, C++, or MATLAB experience.
