Engineering Manager, Detect & Respond (Cybersecurity)

Location: New York City, United States; hybrid with four days per week in the office

Base salary: $175,000–$215,000 per year, plus potential variable compensation.

What you will do

• Own and execute the Detection Engineering roadmap across cloud infrastructure, SaaS, and product environments.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of detection engineers as a hands-on player-coach.
• Improve detection health, coverage, precision, false-positive rates, safe rollouts, observability, testing, and runbooks.
• Lead or oversee security incident response, including containment, playbooks, and post-incident reviews.
• Partner with engineering, infrastructure, IT, Risk, Compliance, and Security Engineering teams on threat modeling and detection requirements.
• Define scope, escalation paths, and performance expectations with the external SOC.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in security engineering or security operations.
• 2+ years managing security or detection engineering teams, including senior engineers.
• Strong experience with SIEM platforms, detection-as-code practices, adversary TTPs, and threat-informed detection development.
• Experience with incident response leadership, IR playbooks, and post-incident reviews.
• Experience working with or managing an external SOC.
• Familiarity with cloud environments, endpoint security, identity platforms, and collaboration with Compliance, Risk, and Audit teams.
