Mechanical Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC; begins in Durham, NC and is expected to move to Benson, NC after completion of the new facility.

What you will do

• Lead the design, specification, installation, and integration of chilled water, cooling water, domestic water, compressed air, argon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and related distribution systems.
• Develop mechanical layouts, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and installation packages with EPC contractors using AutoCAD, Inventor, and SolidWorks.
• Manage installation activities with EPC, general contractors, OEMs, maintenance, and operations teams.
• Oversee commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, performance validation, and startup support for mechanical utilities and production equipment.
• Conduct field inspections and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, procurement, cost tracking, reporting, and technical documentation.
• Improve system reliability, energy efficiency, and maintainability, then transition completed systems to operations and maintenance with documentation and training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
• 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience in industrial, manufacturing, or heavy-industry environments.
• Strong understanding of mechanical utility systems, piping design, fluid systems, and industrial equipment.
• Experience with chilled water, cooling water, compressed air, or industrial gases.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, and project management software; ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and technical specifications.
• Ability to work onsite in active industrial environments and meet U.S. Person requirements for export-controlled access.

Nice to have

• Experience with argon, nitrogen, hydrogen, or high-purity piping systems.
• Exposure to capital project budgeting, procurement, and contractor management.
• Knowledge of power distribution, HVAC, process cooling, commissioning, reliability engineering, or long-term asset ownership.
• OSHA 30, PMP, EIT/FE, Six Sigma, or similar certification.
