Applied AI Research Engineer

Location: San Francisco, onsite. Relocation support is available for exceptional candidates.

What you will do

• Design and execute research programs focused on cost-efficient inference, signal classification, hallucination detection, and RL-based sequencing.
• Build advanced evaluation frameworks that measure trajectory quality rather than just final output.
• Develop agent memory, retrieval, and context systems in collaboration with an elite engineering team.
• Translate research findings into production-grade infrastructure with measurable impact.
• Define the research agenda and priorities for the Applied Research function.

Requirements

• Must be based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco for onsite work.
• Proven experience thinking about agent failure modes in practice beyond benchmark performance.
• Ability to build evaluation systems and identify where standard approaches break down.
• Strong coding skills to implement ideas, run experiments, and ship production-ready code.
• Experience with agent evaluation, RAG, knowledge graphs, RL, or production ML systems.
