Acute Coding Appeals Specialist

Location: Remote across the United States, with required travel to and onsite work at client, temporary, or corporate offices as business needs require

Salary: $29.70–$31.80 per hour, based on experience

What you will do

• Review and write inpatient Diagnosis Related Group denial appeals to support assigned DRGs and the validity of assigned codes.
• Apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, NCCI, CMS, and CMG coding expertise to identify billing, coding, documentation, and quality concerns.
• Review clinical documentation, coding and CDI guidelines, and regulatory standards supporting client accounts.
• Document root-cause issues using spreadsheets, account records, claim examples, governmental and payer requirements, and relevant literature.
• Support client education and training related to coding appeal outcomes.
• Maintain productivity standards, coding certification requirements, and current knowledge of coding and regulatory changes.

Requirements

• Five years of coding experience, including previous inpatient facility coding and experience with appeals, denials, and edits.
• Advanced knowledge of medical coding and billing systems, clinical documentation, and regulatory requirements.
• Active coding certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CIC, CPC, or COC.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Openness to innovation, including AI, and the ability to identify better processes for improving client and patient experiences.
• Ability and willingness to travel to and work onsite at client, temporary, or corporate locations when required.
