VP, Software Engineering (AI)

Location: Budapest, Hungary. Hybrid work model with an expectation to work onsite at least 50% of the time for employees within commuting distance of a hirify.global office.

What you will do

• Lead a global engineering organization across multiple teams, products, and regions through Directors and managers.
• Set technical and organizational strategy and partner with Product Management on product vision, roadmaps, and priorities.
• Deliver production-grade enterprise SaaS systems with strong security, privacy, compliance, reliability, and operational performance.
• Embed AI-native practices across the software development lifecycle and build reusable platform and AI capabilities.
• Hire, coach, and develop senior engineering leaders while scaling the organization, workforce, and budgets.
• Represent Engineering in executive forums and align Product, UX, Security, Data, and Customer teams around shared outcomes.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large, global engineering organizations through Directors and managers.
• Experience owning business outcomes and accountability for delivery, reliability, security, and organizational performance.
• Experience leading enterprise SaaS products at significant scale.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture, platform engineering, microservices, API-first design, DevOps, data platforms, and AI/ML.
• Experience with operational excellence, SLOs, incident management, quality, security, and always-on services.
• Executive-level communication skills and experience hiring and developing senior engineering leaders.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated or security-sensitive domains such as GRC, governance, risk, compliance, or fintech.
• Familiarity with LLMs, RAG, agent frameworks, MCP, and AI-assisted development.
• Experience leading distributed, multi-region teams or scaling organizations through growth, M&A integration, or platform consolidation.
