VP, Software Engineering (AI)

Location: Budapest, Hungary. Hybrid work model with an expectation to work onsite at least 50% of the time when within commuting distance of a hirify.global office.

What you will do

• Lead a global engineering organization across multiple teams, products, and business-domain initiatives.
• Set technical and organizational strategy while owning delivery, reliability, security, compliance, and overall engineering performance.
• Partner with Product Management to shape product vision, roadmaps, priorities, and measurable business outcomes.
• Embed AI-native practices across the software development lifecycle and build reusable platform and AI capabilities.
• Design the organization for regional scale, plan workforce and budgets, and hire, coach, and develop senior engineering leaders.
• Represent Engineering in executive forums and align Product, UX, Security, Data, Customer, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large, global engineering organizations through Directors and managers.
• Experience owning business outcomes and leading enterprise SaaS products at significant scale.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture, platform engineering, microservices, API-first design, DevOps, data platforms, and AI/ML.
• Track record of operational excellence across always-on services, including SLOs, incident management, quality, security, privacy, and compliance.
• Experience driving AI adoption, large-scale technology modernization, and production-grade engineering execution.
• Executive-level communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and translate technical trade-offs, risks, and outcomes into business strategy.

Nice to have

• Experience in GRC, governance, risk, compliance, fintech, or another regulated or security-sensitive enterprise domain.
• Familiarity with LLMs, RAG, agent frameworks, MCP, and AI-assisted development.
• Experience leading distributed, multi-region teams or scaling organizations through growth, M&A integration, or platform consolidation.
