Head of Engineering, Foundations

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; office attendance at least two days per week. Exceptions may be made for exceptional individual contributor candidates in other locations.

Salary: $280,000+ annually, plus benefits and equity.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, coach, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
• Develop staff and principal engineers who establish technical standards across engineering.
• Build developer platforms, deployment pipelines, observability systems, and developer tooling.
• Automate infrastructure on Kubernetes and AWS using Pulumi, cdk8s, and ArgoCD.
• Design agent execution harnesses with sandboxing, audit trails, and rollback for systems handling real-money movement.
• Set standards for reliability, operability, architectural coherence, and sustainable delivery speed.

Requirements

• 12+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years leading teams.
• Experience designing and shipping end-to-end systems while writing clean, well-tested code.
• Ability to develop staff and principal engineers and improve the effectiveness of other teams.
• Experience operating consequential infrastructure and making sound systems decisions.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, and infrastructure as code is helpful.
• Clear standards for infrastructure quality and a product-oriented approach to developer experience.
