Engineering Manager (Backend)

Location: Concord Office, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $190,000–$235,000 per year, excluding annual bonus and recurring RSU grants.

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional agile engineering teams focused on software quality, sustainability, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Own the team technical roadmap and align priorities with engineering leadership and broader platform strategy.
• Guide backend architecture decisions, lead design reviews, and collaborate with technical leaders across engineering.
• Mentor engineers, provide feedback, manage career development, and recruit and onboard frontend and backend talent.
• Manage delivery operations, remove blockers, balance the backlog, and maintain coding, testing, deployment, security, and SLA standards.
• Lead incident remediation and develop operational tools using AI-enabled technologies while monitoring team health and delivery metrics.

Requirements

• 3+ years managing teams in B2B SaaS applications, with experience in quality operations, enterprise maintenance, system sustainability, and contractual SLAs.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership or direct people management.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, API design, backend service architecture, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability.
• Experience managing the full people lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and promotions.
• Experience with GitHub, Jira, logging or observability platforms, and AI-assisted development tools.
• Computer Science degree or related technical education, or equivalent practical experience.
