TL;DR
Principal Operational Analysis and Modeling Engineer (Aerospace): Building operational analysis and simulation capabilities for hypersonic aircraft with an accent on mission engineering, combat scenarios, aircraft survivability, and decision-quality quantitative analysis. Focus on developing AFSIM-based models, fusing simulation inputs into DoD analysis architecture, and expanding analysis through machine learning and cloud computing.

Location: Los Angeles, California; on-site. The role requires access to U.S.-controlled information, so the hire must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $165,750–$224,250 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Build and lead operational analysis, modeling, and simulation capabilities.
  • Create models of real-world systems, processes, aircraft capabilities, missions, threats, and operational constraints.
  • Use mission engineering and risk analysis to assess aircraft effectiveness, survivability, defensive countermeasures, and mission risks.
  • Gather engineering and test data to validate and calibrate simulations, while documenting assumptions, methods, and results.
  • Provide quantitative insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical decision-makers.
  • Manage modeling and simulation projects and collaborate with engineers, analysts, and subject-matter experts.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of DoD, defense industry, and/or FFRDC experience in operational modeling and analysis.
  • Fluency with relevant platform and mission modeling software, plus Python or similar programming languages.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information access.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
  • Willingness to travel and work in a complex, multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM).
  • Experience using machine learning and cloud computing to expand simulation analysis.
  • Willingness to submit to a Counter Intelligence Polygraph if required by the program.
