TL;DR
Engineer IV-V, Risk Informed Safety Analysis (Nuclear Safety/PRA): Performing probabilistic risk assessments and safety analyses for X-energy nuclear technologies with an accent on PRA modeling, safety basis documentation, and risk-informed design applications. Focus on developing event and fault trees, modeling internal and external hazards, interpreting nuclear safety standards, and supporting licensing reviews with customers and regulators.

Location: Rockville, MD; work site in Gaithersburg, MD. Four days in the office are expected, with remote flexibility only in special circumstances. Standard hours are 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday.

Salary: Level IV $146,250–$168,750 annually; Level V $163,800–$190,000 annually.

What you will do

  • Perform probabilistic risk assessments and other nuclear safety analyses in accordance with applicable industry standards.
  • Create, maintain, and apply PRA models using specialized software such as EPRI’s Phoenix Architect.
  • Develop event trees, fault trees, screening methods, supplemental evaluations, and models for operating modes, radionuclide sources, internal and external hazards, and multi-reactor scenarios.
  • Prepare and review calculation documents, technical reports, safety basis documents, procedures, and system or subsystem requirements.
  • Provide risk insights to support technology design, operations, licensing bases, and engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project leadership and interface with customers, regulators, and technical working groups during nuclear safety reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, chemical, mechanical, or another engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Level IV: typically 10 years of engineering experience; Level V: typically 15 years.
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and assess engineering and PRA standards, including ASME/ANS RA-S-1.4-2021.
  • Experience preparing technical calculations, reports, safety basis documentation, and engineering studies.
  • Ability to work four days per week in the Gaithersburg, Maryland office during Eastern Time business hours.

Nice to have

  • Experience with internal and external hazard modeling.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in engineering or a related field.
