Senior Software Engineer - Open Source (Quantum Computing)

Salary: £81,000–£95,000 per year, depending on experience

What you will do

• Lead development of internal and external software for error-corrected quantum computing systems.
• Turn internal tools into public software and own the full lifecycle, including design, development, testing, builds, workflows, and releases.
• Define technical direction, make architectural decisions, and maintain high engineering standards.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with engineering teams to integrate software and hardware artifacts with Deltakit.
• Engage with researchers and users to identify needs and translate feedback into product improvements.
• Lead the Deltakit open-source community and run workshops and tutorials.

Requirements

• Strong technical foundation in computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
• Experience designing and building high-quality scientific or technical software, primarily in Python.
• Ability to translate complex research concepts into robust, scalable, and user-friendly solutions.
• Broad understanding of software systems, such as compilers, operating systems, and computer architecture.
• Experience shipping software to users, collaborating across diverse teams, and maintaining high engineering standards.
• Ability to shape technical direction, drive best practices, mentor others, and communicate effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience with a strongly typed language such as C++ or Rust.
• Interest in contributing to the quantum open-source ecosystem.
