Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: London, UK; hybrid, with three days per week in the office

Salary: £90,000–£100,000 per year, plus meaningful share options

What you will do

• Build AI-powered approval workflows that convert natural-language rules into deterministic, auditable business logic.
• Develop intelligent collections agents that automate payment reminders and escalation workflows.
• Scale revenue-critical billing infrastructure for 10x more throughput while controlling cost and maintaining reliability.
• Design systems that process high-velocity event streams and build resilient production services.
• Develop customer-facing platform capabilities such as contract intake, e-signatures, and role-based access controls.
• Work directly with product and design in a cross-functional team, owning solutions from discovery through production operation.

Requirements

• Production experience building backend systems.
• Strong interest in distributed systems and resilient software.
• Customer-oriented approach and ability to understand the reasons behind product decisions.
• Comfort working through ambiguity, gathering feedback, and adapting solutions.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Comfort with production responsibility and on-call work for revenue-critical infrastructure.
