TL;DR
Distinguished Engineer (AI Security Systems) (AI/cybersecurity): Architecting and shipping autonomous AI security systems from endpoint sensors to cloud-scale reasoning with an accent on large language models, agentic architectures, distributed inference, and adversarial resilience. Focus on building defenders that investigate and remediate threats, evaluating efficacy and reliability across trillions of events, and carrying frontier research into the Falcon platform.
Location: USA - Remote
Base salary: $235,000–$350,000 per year for U.S. candidates, plus eligibility for bonuses, equity grants, and benefits.
Company
CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company developing an AI-native platform that protects organizations and processes almost 3 trillion events per day.
What you will do
Architect end-to-end AI security systems spanning models, agents, security telemetry, execution environments, endpoint inference, and cloud-scale reasoning.
Bring frontier AI to endpoints using distillation, quantization, compact models, and kernel- and user-mode telemetry.
Build streaming detection and inference systems across trillions of events with GPU-efficient serving, model routing, and cost, latency, and reliability controls.
Develop autonomous defenders that investigate, hunt, write and validate detections, and drive response and remediation.
Create learning systems using adversary emulation, simulations, expert feedback, reinforcement learning, post-training, reward modeling, and synthetic data.
Lead technical direction, benchmarks, cyber ranges, evaluation harnesses, productionization, mentoring, and collaboration with AI and security research communities.
Requirements
BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field; PhD preferred.
15+ years of industry experience in software engineering, machine learning, or security engineering, or 12+ years with a PhD.
8+ years at a senior technical leadership level such as Principal, Distinguished, or equivalent.
Track record of architecting, building, and shipping production AI or ML systems for security on endpoints or at cloud scale.
Hands-on expertise with large language models and agentic architectures, including planning, tool use, memory, context management, post-training, reward modeling, and inference optimization.
Deep expertise in detection and response, threat hunting, malware analysis, vulnerability research, adversary tradecraft, or security automation.
Expert-level proficiency in one or more of C, C++, Rust, Go, or Python.
Deep experience with distributed systems, high-throughput data infrastructure, and GPU inference stacks such as vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, Triton, or SGLang.
Scientific rigor, including hypothesis formation, credible baselines, meaningful experiments, and evidence-based conclusions.
Experience setting technical vision, raising standards for senior engineers and researchers, communicating complex tradeoffs, and using AI to improve decisions, workflows, efficiency, and business outcomes.
Nice to have
Cybersecurity industry experience across endpoint, cloud, identity, SIEM, or threat intelligence.
Experience at a frontier AI lab in pre-training, post-training, reinforcement learning, inference, evaluation, or safety.
Experience with adversarial machine learning, AI red teaming, autonomous cyber reasoning systems, or AI-driven offensive security.
Experience building extensible AI or agentic platforms for safely developing, evaluating, optimizing, and deploying AI applications at scale.
Recognized technical contributions through publications, patents, influential open-source projects, or conference talks spanning AI and security.
Culture & Benefits
Work on frontier technology protecting organizations, hospitals, economies, and critical infrastructure.
Access trillions of daily Falcon events, adversary intelligence, and high-fidelity cyber environments.
Help define the technical culture, architecture, and standards of a new frontier lab.
Collaborate with AI researchers, offensive operators, threat hunters, and incident responders.
Receive health and wellness programs, paid vacation and holidays, paid parental and adoption leave, professional development opportunities, employee networks, and volunteer opportunities.
Benefits include bonuses, equity awards, health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
