Research Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule with office attendance

Salary: $108,900–$147,300 annual base salary, with potential discretionary bonus and stock awards depending on role eligibility.

What you will do

• Identify and develop novel, operationally relevant research concepts related to Internet infrastructure applications and protocols.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on research and development opportunities aligned with long-term business objectives.
• Participate in requirements gathering, design reviews, code reviews, and test plan reviews.
• Develop software and systems prototypes and practical solutions to difficult technology problems.
• Create clear use cases and collaborate on technology integration strategies across the company and industry.
• Represent hirify.global at external forums and communicate research results through internal and public channels.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field with 5 or more years of software development experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with 3 or more years of experience.
• Experience in research engineering, systems development research, or prototype development.
• Development experience with C, C++, Java, and/or Python.
• Experience presenting ideas and prototypes at public forums, such as technical conferences.
• Authorship of one or more peer-reviewed publications.
• Ability to work in the Reston, Virginia office under a hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Experience with network security, cryptography, privacy, identification, and authentication.
• Knowledge of open-standard Internet protocols and services such as DNS, IP, or RDAP.
• Experience with large-scale data analysis and network traffic data evaluation.
• Knowledge of Unix-like operating systems and SQL, NoSQL, or equivalent data storage schemas.
• Experience working in research teams on fast-paced, high-impact projects.
