TL;DR
Staff Process Development Engineer (Dry and Wet Etching) (Semiconductor Manufacturing): Developing, qualifying, and improving dry and wet etch processes for III-V semiconductor and photonic devices with an accent on etch profiles, selectivity, uniformity, repeatability, and manufacturing transfer. Focus on yield enhancement, defect and scrap reduction, equipment qualification, process control, and solving complex production issues in a semiconductor cleanroom.

Location: Onsite at the Caswell semiconductor fabrication facility in Towcester, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. Weekday working is normal, with flexibility for other working times and shifts when required.

What you will do

  • Develop, qualify, optimise, and maintain dry plasma and wet chemical etch processes for III-V semiconductor and photonic devices.
  • Improve etch profiles, selectivity, uniformity, process repeatability, yield, and defect performance.
  • Analyse process and equipment data using SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, and statistical methods to drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform equipment qualification and cross-qualification to support supply continuity, capacity increases, and cycle-time reduction.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing, and R&D on NPI and technology transfer.
  • Support equipment fault finding, recovery, monitoring, and performance improvement while working in a semiconductor cleanroom.

Requirements

  • HNC/HND, bachelor's, master's, PhD, or equivalent industrial experience in semiconductor technology, materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, electronic engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in semiconductor, photonics, compound semiconductor, MEMS, optoelectronics, silicon photonics, or another advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and root cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain accurate technical documentation and operating procedures.
  • Willingness to work onsite in a semiconductor cleanroom and on shifts when required.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of photonic integrated circuit manufacture.
  • Experience in a high-technology manufacturing or production environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Competence with Microsoft Office and specialist semiconductor manufacturing or data analysis systems.
