Staff Process Development Engineer (Dry and Wet Etching)

Location: Caswell site, Towcester, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom; onsite semiconductor cleanroom role with a normal weekday working pattern and flexibility to work other times or shifts when required.

What you will do

• Maintain, develop, qualify, and continuously improve dry and wet etch processes for III-V semiconductor and photonic devices.
• Optimize etch profiles, selectivity, uniformity, repeatability, yield, defects, cycle time, and operational efficiency.
• Analyze process and equipment data using SPC, Six Sigma, DOE, and statistical methodologies.
• Perform equipment qualification and cross-qualification, support tool monitoring, fault finding, recovery, and performance improvement.
• Prepare technical documentation, operating procedures, engineering reports, and training materials.
• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing, and R&D on NPI, technology transfer, yield improvement, defect reduction, and cost reduction.

Requirements

• HNC/HND, Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree, or equivalent industrial experience, in Semiconductor Technology, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and root cause analysis methodologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, under pressure, and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Competent PC user, including Microsoft Office and specialist semiconductor manufacturing and data analysis systems.
• Self-motivated, dependable, professional, flexible, and able to maintain excellent attendance, timekeeping, and punctuality.
• Ability to work in a semiconductor cleanroom, perform wet etching, and follow site health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Ability to work flexibly according to business and customer demand, including shifts when needed.

Nice to have

• Experience in semiconductor, photonics, compound semiconductor, MEMS, optoelectronics, silicon photonics, or other advanced manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of photonic integrated circuit manufacture.
• Experience working in a high-technology manufacturing or production environment.
• Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES).
