Sr. Process Development Engineer - Pyrolysis Test

What you will do

• Lead development and scale-up of pyrolyzers and biomass conversion processes from pilot testing through commercial deployment.
• Define experimental strategies, test plans, and campaigns to resolve technical uncertainties and guide commercialization decisions.
• Investigate process performance, operability, equipment failures, and scale-up challenges across pilot and demonstration systems.
• Develop and validate process models, material and energy balances, and engineering analyses for process improvements and facility design.
• Prepare and review PFDs, P&IDs, process control narratives, SOPs, and process equipment specifications.
• Lead process safety reviews and collaborate with Mechanical, Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Operations teams on deployment and startup.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in process development or scale-up engineering, including significant pilot-scale systems experience.
• Experience scaling chemical, thermochemical, energy, or industrial process technologies from pilot to commercial deployment.
• Strong knowledge of heat transfer, reaction engineering, mass and energy balances, process controls, process safety, and industrial operations.
• Hands-on troubleshooting skills, strong engineering judgment, and experience leading cross-functional technical projects.
• Ability to work on-site in Fort Lupton, Colorado and support a rotating after-hours coverage schedule of approximately 2–3 weeks per year.

Nice to have

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with pyrolysis, gasification, biomass conversion, refining, petrochemicals, renewable fuels, or other thermochemical technologies.
• Experience commissioning and operating industrial process systems at demonstration or commercial scale.
• Experience leading process hazard analyses and process safety management programs.
• Experience managing engineering partners, equipment vendors, or contract manufacturers.
