TL;DR
Senior Flight Test Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and directing ground and flight test programs for a large rigid airship with an accent on test planning, hazard analysis, operational documentation, and flight-test safety. Focus on leading complex airship tests, analyzing post-flight data, coordinating test operations, and documenting aircraft limitations and results.

Location: On-site in Sunnyvale, California, United States; flight operations are based at Moffett Field. Occasional travel is required.

What you will do

  • Develop test plans, test hazard analyses, test cards, airship limitations, and other flight-test documentation.
  • Lead ground and flight tests onboard the airship or from the telemetry room.
  • Coordinate with engineers, test pilots, operations teams, and support groups to achieve test objectives safely.
  • Lead test briefings and debriefings and participate in test-readiness and safety reviews.
  • Perform post-flight data analysis, prepare flight-test reports, and document non-conformance items.
  • Contribute to the Airship Flight Manual and other operational documents.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experimental flight-test experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an applicable engineering field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Class 3 medical certificate or better.
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems, aircraft operations, flight-test instrumentation, and test planning.
  • Strong technical, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain a NASA Moffett Federal Airfield AOA Badge and pass applicable background and drug-screening requirements.

Nice to have

  • Graduation from a recognized test pilot school or a private pilot rating.
  • Experience with first flights of experimental aircraft and FAA certification test programs.
  • Experience testing fly-by-wire, flight-control, electrical, or propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, aircraft performance, human factors, cockpit design, and FARs.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and aptitude with Python coding.
