Director, Software Engineering – Research & Advanced Development (AI Robotics)

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of advanced robotics software engineers through work planning, prioritization, mentorship, and performance development.
• Define technical priorities and guide execution across software architecture, experimentation, evaluation, and system integration.
• Provide architectural direction for software that evaluates and incorporates emerging AI-enabled robotics capabilities.
• Design rigorous experiments, benchmarks, evaluation workflows, and rapid prototypes for advanced robotic behaviors.
• Work with hardware, systems, perception, controls, product, and software engineering teams to align advanced development with the automation roadmap.
• Support the transition of mature capabilities into production through architecture, documentation, testing, and collaboration.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience, including significant experience with robotics, automation, or complex cyber-physical systems.
• 3+ years of technical leadership or people management experience with responsibility for planning, prioritization, mentoring, and execution through a team.
• Strong software development expertise in Python and/or C++.
• Experience leading software architecture and execution for advanced robotic systems.
• Experience evaluating, integrating, or adapting AI/ML-based robotics capabilities and working with real robotic systems, including debugging, testing, experiments, and performance analysis.

Nice to have

• PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Experience with robotic manipulation, motion planning, robot learning, perception-driven control, or real-time robotics systems.
• Experience with foundation models, vision-language-action models, imitation learning, or reinforcement learning for robotics.
• Experience with ROS/ROS2, PyTorch, Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, or similar simulation tools.
• Experience with sim-to-real workflows, distributed systems, concurrent programming, containerization, and cloud or GPU-based compute.
