Robotic Process Simulation Engineer (Automotive Robotics)

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid attendance at the assigned location at least 3 times per week. Travel to manufacturing and supplier sites is required, approximately 10% and less than 25% overall.

What you will do

• Lead robotic process simulation for assigned automotive manufacturing programs from concept through Start of Production.
• Define and validate simulation requirements covering tooling, automation concepts, robot reach and motion, line layouts, cycle time, throughput, ergonomics, and process feasibility.
• Translate simulation results into technical requirements, recommendations, risk assessments, and actionable inputs for engineering teams, plants, and suppliers.
• Lead technical reviews and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Controls, IT, Plant Operations, Safety, and supplier teams.
• Connect virtual models with physical implementation, troubleshoot discrepancies, and support equipment installation, launch, and production readiness.
• Develop reusable simulation assets, global standards, lessons learned, and scalable automation solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related engineering field.
• Experience in manufacturing engineering, process design, process simulation, and real manufacturing environments, preferably with Siemens Tecnomatix.
• Thorough knowledge of PLC hardware, software design, plant-floor automation systems, and manufacturing interfaces.
• Working knowledge of robot programming and troubleshooting, preferably with FANUC robots, plus the ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and equipment layouts.
• Strong structured problem-solving, project management, communication, collaboration, and site-execution skills.
• Must be able to work in the United States without GM immigration sponsorship; GM does not provide sponsorship for this role.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of experience in automotive OEM, Tier 1 supplier, software, or industrial automation environments.
• Hands-on experience with robot and PLC simulation, offline programming, digital twins, virtual commissioning, or advanced manufacturing simulation.
• Experience with robot interfaces, PLCs, line controllers, conveyors, safety devices, and automated equipment.
• Knowledge of ergonomics, safety standards, risk assessment, guarding concepts, and manufacturing health and safety.
• Experience supporting installation, run-at-rate, launch, Start of Production, reusable simulation assets, or global engineering standards.
