TL;DR
Senior R & D Engineer, Mechanical/Biomedical (medical devices): Designing and developing Synchron’s Stentrode implant system for neurovascular brain–computer interfaces with an accent on mechanical performance, deliverability, biocompatibility, and manufacturability. Focus on defining fatigue and durability testing, integrating electro-mechanical components, and transferring implant systems from concept through design verification into manufacturing.

Location: San Diego, CA, US — on-site

Salary: $140,000–$160,000 annually, with potential discretionary bonuses and/or equity grants.

Company

hirify.global develops non-surgical brain–computer interfaces, including the Stentrode system, to help people with paralysis and cognitive decline interact with the digital world.

What you will do

  • Drive the mechanical design and performance of the Stentrode, including the lead body, electro-mechanical connections, and system interfaces.
  • Define welding, reflow, bonding, over-molding, and other processes supporting signal fidelity and mechanical reliability.
  • Develop and execute fatigue, tensile pull, trackability, deployment force, and simulated-use testing.
  • Design accelerated durability protocols for pulsatile and chronic loading conditions.
  • Collaborate with biocompatibility, quality, R&D, clinical, and IRTU teams on materials, interfaces, requirements, and device performance.
  • Incorporate feedback from neurosurgeons and interventional neuroradiologists into iterative device development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing endovascular or catheter-based medical devices.
  • Expertise in medical device design, including stent or implant geometry and fatigue characterization.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD, such as SolidWorks or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience taking implant systems from concept through design verification and manufacturing transfer.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice to have

  • Neuromodulation or cardiovascular pacing device experience.
  • Experience integrating electrodes or sensors into implantable platforms.
  • Experience supporting IDE or PMA submissions for Class III neurovascular devices.
  • Collaboration experience with interventionalists or neurosurgeons during device development.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on work on safety-critical medical technology at the intersection of healthcare and technology.
  • Medical and dental insurance for eligible US full-time W-2 employees and dependents.
  • Life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k), flexible spending account, commuter benefits for New York employees, and discretionary unlimited PTO.
