Forward Deployed Research Scientist (Biology)

Location: San Francisco, California; in person at the San Francisco HQ 5 days per week, with one company-wide remote week per month

Salary: $220,000–$315,000 USD annually, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Conduct original research in interpretability and computational biology directly with customers and partners.
• Interpret genomic foundation models, vision transformers, and protein language models to uncover learned biological representations.
• Prototype techniques for visualizing and manipulating internal model structures.
• Define problems and hypotheses, source data, build tools, iterate on solutions, and deliver research for high-stakes customer projects.
• Collaborate with engineering to turn research into production-ready tools for precision medicine, digital pathology, drug discovery, and related applications.
• Help shape research direction and drive successful customer partnerships.

Requirements

• PhD, MD, or equivalent experience in biology.
• Strong machine learning background with experience in computational biology or bioinformatics.
• Deep familiarity with large models and interest in understanding how they work.
• Fluency in Python and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Strong writing and communication skills for explaining complex ideas.
• Ability to move quickly, take ownership, and work directly with customers.
