TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (III-Senior), Space Based Interceptors Mass Properties (Aerospace): Owning vehicle-level mass properties and designing flight hardware for space-based interceptors, kill vehicles, and hypersonic flight systems with an accent on CG, MOI, POI, packaging, and high-g aerospace environments. Focus on defining mass properties methodologies, developing and approving measurement tests, maintaining mechanical interface documentation, and solving precision design challenges under thermal, aerodynamic, vibration, and launch-load constraints.

Location: Hybrid work near Denver or Colorado Springs, United States; some work must be performed onsite.

Base salary: $110,000–$190,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for U.S. and allied space defense missions.

What you will do

  • Own mass properties for flight vehicle structures and systems, including CG, MOI, POI, predictions, tracking, and growth allowances.
  • Design mechanical components and support vehicle-level requirements for space-based interceptors, kill vehicles, and hypersonic flight systems.
  • Define mass properties methodologies, reports, mechanical interface control documents, configuration baselines, and milestone deliverables.
  • Develop and approve CG and MOI measurement test plans, witness testing, and resolve anomalies and non-conformances.
  • Apply spacecraft and space-environment expertise to precision mechanisms, electronics packaging, seeker integration, vibration isolation, EMI management, and launch-load structures.
  • Mentor junior mechanical engineers and communicate complex technical topics to executive, program, and customer audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7–15+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and mass properties analysis, primarily on space-based interceptor, hypersonic, or similar high-performance flight programs.
  • Expert proficiency in Siemens NX, complex multi-subsystem vehicle assemblies, configuration management, and part design.
  • Expert knowledge of GD&T, custom datum and tolerance schemes, tolerance stack-ups, first-principles calculations, and flight vehicle structural design.
  • Experience with rocket, missile, satellite, interceptor, kill vehicle, or re-entry system design from initial development through production, plus aerospace and defense standards such as MIL-SPEC, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1540, and AIAA S-110.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret or TS/SCI security clearance and meet ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility for required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of interceptor, kill vehicle, or hypersonic flight vehicle experience with multiple programs delivered to flight test or operational fielding.
  • Experience developing mass properties tracking tools, hypersonic aeroshells, TPS integration, precision seeker alignment, deployment or divert mechanisms, and ultra-mass-constrained structures.
  • Familiarity with NASTRAN, Ansys, structural analysis, and FEA review.
  • Experience with defense proposals and captures, or with scaling engineering teams and processes in a startup or high-growth aerospace and defense company.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work environment with a mission focused on space superiority and defense aerospace.
  • Equity participation and case-by-case compensation based on knowledge, skills, education, location, and experience.
  • Health, dental, vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO, and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) and parental leave.
