Mechanical CAD Drafter (Staff or Principal) (Aerospace)

Location: Fully onsite at the GravityWorks factory in Centennial, CO or Long Beach, CA. Work is performed in an office or production-factory environment and may involve standing, walking, bending, and lifting items up to 20 lb.

Hourly base rate: $43.50–$72.00 per hour. The position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.

What you will do

• Own complex, multi-level drawing packages for flight hardware, ground support equipment, and structural assemblies across concurrent programs.
• Convert engineering inputs, sketches, and design intent into precise technical drawings using NX, editing CAD models when needed.
• Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, electrical, and structural engineers on design for manufacturability and drawing-related challenges.
• Prepare and deliver drawing packages for PDR, CDR, TRR, and other formal design reviews.
• Manage drawing release, revisions, configuration control, traceability, and documentation integrity.
• Support fabrication and assembly teams while mentoring junior and mid-level drafters; Principal-level hires also establish drafting standards and act as technical authorities for GD&T.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional mechanical drafting experience for Staff-level hiring or 12+ years for Principal-level hiring, preferably in aerospace, defense, or a related industry.
• Expert knowledge of mechanical GD&T and its application across diverse parts, materials, and assemblies.
• Proficiency with NX (Siemens); SolidWorks experience is acceptable.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and production of accurate, complete drawings optimized for fabrication and assembly.
• Experience leading drawing work across multiple concurrent programs, communicating with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program management, and mentoring drafting talent.
• Must be able to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance and meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility for required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with spacecraft, satellite, defense hardware, flight structures, mechanisms, and GSE documentation.
• Experience defining drafting standards, template libraries, and organizational documentation processes.
• Familiarity with Windchill, Teamcenter, PLM, engineering change processes, ASME Y14.5, and MIL-STD-100.
• Experience with formal customer reviews, assembly storyboarding, and work instructions for spacecraft integration.
• Startup or fast-paced development experience with compressed timelines and evolving requirements.
