Senior Associate (Venture Capital)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; 5-day-a-week, in-office role with travel across Japan, Asia, and periodically the United States

Candidates must already be authorized to work in Japan; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: ¥10–15 million annual base salary, plus corporate bonus, carry potential, and benefits.

What you will do

• Source Seed-stage investment opportunities across Japan and selected Asian markets.
• Build relationships with founders, angel investors, funds, accelerators, universities, LPs, and other ecosystem participants.
• Screen companies through founder interviews, product reviews, market assessment, competitive analysis, and evaluation of business models and technology.
• Coordinate financial, legal, and market diligence with US-based investment professionals and support investment memo preparation.
• Assist with investment transactions, portfolio support, follow-on evaluation, and performance monitoring.
• Connect Japanese and Asian founders with US-based investors, partners, and international growth opportunities.

Requirements

• 3–8+ years of experience in venture capital, investment banking, consulting, corporate strategy, or an early-stage startup environment.
• Deep knowledge of the Japanese startup ecosystem and local networks; broader Asian market familiarity is advantageous.
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• Strong analytical judgment and ability to evaluate early-stage businesses, technologies, markets, and competitive dynamics.
• Professional fluency in both Japanese and English is required.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity in sourcing, research, screening, diligence, and memo preparation.

Nice to have

• Experience with or exposure to the US venture capital ecosystem.
• MBA or another advanced degree.
