Senior Process Development Engineer (Backend)

Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom; onsite at the Caswell semiconductor fabrication facility

What you will do

• Develop, qualify, maintain, and continuously improve semiconductor manufacturing processes.
• Optimise thin-film deposition, metal deposition, and backend wafer processing, including mounting, thinning, CMP, cleaving, and dicing.
• Analyse process and equipment data using SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, and statistical methods to improve yield, throughput, quality, and cycle time.
• Perform equipment qualification and cross-qualification, support fault finding, and improve process equipment performance and availability.
• Prepare technical documentation, operating procedures, engineering reports, and training materials.
• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing, and R&D on NPI and technology transfer.

Requirements

• HNC/HND, bachelor's, master's, PhD, or equivalent industrial experience in Semiconductor Technology, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in semiconductor, photonics, compound semiconductor, MEMS, optoelectronics, silicon photonics, or another advanced manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and root cause analysis.
• Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES) and competence with PC and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and independent-working skills.
• Ability to work in a semiconductor cleanroom, perform wet etching, follow health and safety procedures, and work shifts when required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of photonic integrated circuit manufacture.
• Experience working in a high-technology manufacturing or production environment.
