Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid

Salary: $150,000–$280,000 base salary per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Build novel AI-driven product experiences and user interfaces for the web.
• Develop scalable backend systems while contributing across the full stack.
• Debug complex streaming issues and improve product reliability.
• Own the full development cycle of features from conception through production.
• Ship frequently and help scale the company's language-learning content.
• Work closely with product, design, and machine learning teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience as a backend engineer.
• Experience building polished consumer applications.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and independent execution skills.
• Strong product sense and the ability to think cross-functionally about product experiences.
• Ability to coach and mentor other engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Experience working on an application used by 1 million or more users.
